Yoga
The ancient Indian practice of yoga includes physical postures, breathing exercises and
meditation to connect body, breath and mind, providing a pathway to enlightenment and
physical wellness.
What Is Yoga
Yoga is a holistic practice from India that connects body, breath and mind, dating back thousands of years. It provides a path toward self-realisation, including physical postures, breathing exercises and meditation. Yoga
aims to transform and purify the body, mind and soul, creating a greater
connection within and all around.
What To Expect
Each individual yoga session contains an assessment of your current state of embodiment including any health concerns. Your specific yoga sequence will be discussed with you, providing explanations and demonstration of the postures and techniques. Hands-on or verbal guidance and instruction are provided to ensure you are comfortable with implementing the sequence at home. A personalised practice outline will be emailed to you within 48 hours.
My Experience
The style of yoga I teach is informed from over 800 hours of formal trainings, including Hatha yoga, Viniyoga and Prana Vinyasa yoga. I believe in keeping traditions alive and honour the roots from where I have gained my knowledge and practice.
Yoga Classes
As with any group activity, the benefits of being part of a yoga community include a sense of
belonging and connection, as well as the motivation to exercise your body and mind regularly. This
helps to improve mental health and overall wellbeing.
‘Yoga for Seniors’ is a gentle yoga class designed to move through each section of the body, helping
you to move more freely while connecting deeper within. It may be done either on a mat or sitting on a
chair. A class includes gentle breathing exercises (pranayama), gentle movements and postures
(asana) and mind-body-breath awareness. The postures may be done standing, seated, kneeling or
lying down, many with variations for you to choose which option suits you best.
What to bring:
Please bring a yoga mat, towel and/or cushion, water bottle and any other yoga props you might like
to use, such as blocks, strap.
Yoga Nidra
Yoga Nidra is a form of guided meditation called “yogic sleep”, without going to sleep. It uses a conscious relaxation technique, keeping the mind awake while the body is deeply relaxed. This process helps to heal the body and soothe the mind. They say that doing 30 minutes of Yoga Nidra is similar to having 2-4 hours sleep.
Yoga Nidra is best done lying down on your back, setting yourself up comfortably with cushions under
head and/or knees, blanket or towel to cover the body, and an eye pillow, eye mask or scarf laying
across closed eyes. The body needs to be comfortable and warm to lie down without moving for the
whole session in total relaxation while listening to the guided instructions to relax the body and mind.
